5 Reasons To Spring Clean Your Home

My favourite time of the year, spring symbolises new beginnings and is the traditional season to have a good clear out.  Here's 5 reasons why you should too. By removing things which are cluttering up and blocking the energy flow in your home, you will improve the energy in your living space As you clean your house, you clean up your own energy, allowing you to think more clearly Traditional Feng Shui principles says that decluttering your kitchen will improve your health.  So clear out your fridge, freezer, pantry, chipped crockery, things you no longer use and electrical things that no longer work Bring in new plants to refresh the energy of your space and to symbolise the energy of new beginnings If you didn't...

Is there a natural alternative to sleeping pills?

Most definitely!! Did you know that prescription sleeping pills are well-known for causing memory loss? The popular American drug Ambien (also known as Stilnox amongst other brand names) has been termed the “amnesia drug” and some side effects include night terrors, sleep walking, sleep driving (obviously life-threatening, can you imagine?!) and hallucinations (plain scary!) Prescription sleeping pills have been found to put you in a state similar to being passed out drunk or in a coma while bypassing the restorative sleep your brain needs. Ambien, Lunesta and Sonata sleeping pills are known to cause memory loss as cited by Richard C Mohrs, PhD former vice chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Most importantly is to find the root cause of why you’re...

How to Cure the Common Cold Naturally

Viruses constantly surround us and it's only when our immune systems are weakened that we become susceptible. Extra pressures at work/home, getting over-tired, not eating properly, constant worrying and even physically getting chilled can all contribute towards your immune system crumbling and your body unable to withstand an attack from a passing bacteria or virus. Once your immune system is weakened and you have a bacterial or viral infection, your body’s own immunity kicks in.   Your immune system is likely to produce a fever (to help burn out the pathogens) or your body produces mucous (this time to flood out the pathogens). The fever and mucous are good signs that your body is working well!  One of the worst things you can do is to “dry”...

Green Spaghetti Carbonara

This simple recipe, a great way to get a huge helping of greens into your family, is borrowed from the Sarah Wilson's new cookbook "Simplicious" (which I highly recommend for sugar-free eating). Serves two 500g zucchini Sea salt 1 egg plus 1 yolk Quarter cup of grated parmesan cheese plus extra to serve Freshly ground black pepper 20g butter 3-4 rashers of bacon, rind removed, diced What to do: Using a spiraliser or a julienne peeler, slice the zucchini into noodles and place in a colander.  Sprinkle with a little salt and leave for two minutes to drain.  Blot gently with a tea towel to remove excess moisture if required. In a small bowl whisk together the egg, egg yolk and parmesan until well combined. Heat the butter in a large frying pan over a medium to...

Why is a rainbow of veggies good for your health?

A rainbow of food not only makes your plate look appealing but “it has the potential to protect you from heart disease and cancer and keep your brain healthy”  says Christy Tagney PhD, a nutritionist at Rush University Medical Centre. Aside from being packed with essential fibre, vitamins and minerals, veggies are packed with protective plant chemicals which not only give plants their colour, smell and flavour but helps protect the plant from disease and also protects them against cell damage.  “Eating produce passes these plant chemicals – and their benefits to us” Tagney says. That’s how I see herbal medicine passing on it's therapeutic benefits to us by providing concentrated nutrition helping to protect our hearts, our circulatory systems, our central nervous system, our muscles, our...

Why You Need Coconut Oil in your Life

“Coconut Oil kills 93% of colon cancer cells after two days of treatment.  A recent laboratory study has shown that lauric acid (lauric acid makes about half of the content of coconut oil) eliminated 90% of colon cancer cells after two days of treatment” as stated by the HealthandLove blog. Apoptosis is a process in your body which removes damaged cells.  Short-chain fatty acids induce apoptosis in colon cancer cells associated with changes to intracellular redox state and glucose metabolism,  (Matthews GM, et al.  Chemotherapy 2012).  The HealthandLove page goes on to say “What is interesting is that lauric acid contaminated cancer cells by releasing intense oxidative stress and by effectively reducing the levels of glutathione in cancer cells at the same time.  Glutathione is used by...

A little bit about me …

If you're wondering who I am and whether I'm the right practitioner for you, here's a little bit of info. My philosophy to treat naturally came about after constant rounds of antibiotics in my early twenties for sore throats, coughs, colds and flu.  I was getting frustrated with countless trips to the doctor, going in circles, seemingly getting nowhere. I was managing a Natural Therapy Centre called Zen in Darlinghurst at the time and I was blessed to meet a wonderful Herbalist. I was fascinated watching her help improve people’s lives naturally. Witnessing this healing made me curious and I was asking myself “could herbal medicine work for me?” Once I started taking herbal medicine, it completely changed my life! No more trips to the doctor!! But the...
